10. The Zone Diet
The Zone Diet is based on the idea that there is an ideal nutritional balance that will maximumize calorie burning and physical performance. By getting your body into the “Zone”, you can lose weight without starving yourself, and feel more energetic too.
The inventor of the Zone diet, Dr. Sears, says that carbohydrate consumption produces insulin, which causes more calories to be stored as fat. Sounds a bit like the Atkins diet, doesn’t it? The Zone is intended as a long-term program to help you to look and feel great for life. The Zone Diet encourages you to eat good quality carbohydrates and fats — things like olive oil, avocado, and nuts. Yum!

The Raw Food Diet, or Raw Foodism, is about consuming foods and drinks that are unprocessed, completely plant-based, and ideally organic. Raw Foodists say that at least three-quarters of your food intake should be raw. Quite a few raw foodists are also vegans – they don’t eat or drink anything that comes from animals. There are four main types of raw foodists: 1. Raw vegetarians. 2. Raw vegans. 3. Raw omnivores. 4. Raw carnivores. Let’s hope the carnivores eat their meat as part of that one quarter of their diet that isn’t raw…
7. South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet has been around for quite a while. It was developed by cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatston. At first, his goal was to help heart patients reduce their cholesterol levels. South Beach isn’t complicated and doesn’t require that you starve yourself. Like the Atkins and Zone diets it also tries to control insulin levels, and focuses on the benefits of natural, “slow” carbs over “fast” carbs. The South Beach diet has 3 stages, with the third phase being an easy-to-follow maintenance diet you can continue for life.
6. New Glucose Revolution
The New Glucose Revolution was developed by a group of nutritionists and dietitians. It was originally a diet handbook for people who are diabetic or pre-diabetic. As a weight loss diet, it has you plan your meals based on the “glycemic index” The glycemic index of a food is a measure of how fast your blood sugar levels rise after you eating it. The goal behind the New Glucose Revolution is to choose foods that help keep the body’s blood sugar levels stable, which in turn can help you lose weight safely and steadily.
5. Master Cleanse (Lemonade Diet)
The Master Cleanse was originally developed over 50 years ago, not for weight loss, but to help cleanse the body of toxins. It became hugely popular a few years back when Beyonce used it to quickly drop 20 pounds for her role in the movie Dream Girls.
It is basically a fast, meaning you eat absolutely nothing, so losing weight fast is pretty much guaranteed. For the duration you drink nothing but a concoction of lemon juice mixed with water, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Contrary to popular belief, it is not claimed that the juice makes you lose weight. It is just supposed to give you some vitamins and minerals and aid in the detox process. This diet is generally followed for anywhere from a few days up to two weeks.
It can be pretty tough for the first few days, but fans of the Master Cleanse say that they begin to feel great from around the third day. Some nutritionists say that this diet is not a very healthy way to lose weight, pointing out the lack of pretty much anything from the food pyramid, but others attribute their own good health to regualar fasts using the Master Cleanse system.
4. The Dukan Diet
Why are those French people so skinny, anyway? Perhaps French nutritionist, Dr. Dukan has the answer with his own diet. The Dukan diet has gained a huge following, expecially in the UK since 2010, when Dr. Dukan’s book first appeared in English translation. Princess Kate Middleton s one of the may celebrity followers of this diet. It focuses on high-protein intake and reduced calories. The idea is that eating lots of protein will increase the amount of calories your body uses and reduce your appetite at the same time. The Dukan also helps you avoid putting weight back on afterward. Maybe the most enticing feature of the Dukan diet is that it allows twice-a-week “pig-outs,” giving you an occasional break, and something to look forward to!

3. Vegetarian Ornish Diet
This weight loss program was developed by a cardiologist named Dr. Dean Ornish. He had worked for years to develop a diet to help patients with heart disease, and this diet came out of that research. The Ornish diet is strictly vegetarian (but not vegan). Eliminating meat and dairy naturally reduces fat intake and cuts calories. The diet is built around plant-based foods that are nutritious and rich in fiber. Dr. Ornish explains the diet more fully in his bestselling book, <a rel=”nofollow” alt=”Ornish diet information” href=”/more.php?d=ornish_diet”>Eat More, Weigh Less</a>.
In his book he outlines a combination of low-fat, high-fiber food and moderate excercise as a way to lose weight and improve overall health. To keep things simple he divides foods into three types: eat all the time, eat sometimes, and eat never.

2. Atkins Diet
The Atkins Diet is the original low-carb weight loss diet. Robert Atkins, M.D. came up with this diet back in the 1960s, and it’s still used by millions of people to lose wieght and keep it off. The Atkins diet didn’t really explode in popularity until the 1970s, when he released his best-selling book, Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution.
The theory behind the Atkins Diet is that eating less carbs will make your body produce less insulin. Less insulin means your body stores less fat, and you have fewer food cravings. On this diet you can chow down on protein and fat to your heart’s content and still get slim. Most people on the Atkins Diet will also tend to eat more protein than they would normally.
