February 24, 2013 is the date when the 85th Oscar Awards take place. Unlike previous years, this year’s Oscars are really competitive and no one knows who really will win the Oscar. Predictions are being made, bets are being placed, but nothing is certain yet. SAG and Golden Globe awards gave the best director award to Ben Affleck, but he is not even in the nominees for best director this year. When such is the case, to make Oscar predictions of 2013 Oscars is extremely tough. Nevertheless, based on the award shows held in the past month, I have made this list of the top 10 Oscar predictions 2013. We will have to wait till 24th February to see if these predictions are right or not. Here is the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013.
10. Visual Effects
The number 10 prediction on the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013 is related to visual effects. In this category, expect stiff competition between The Hobbit and Life of Pi. My prediction is that this one will go right down to the wire, with eventual winner being The Hobbit.
9. Music
The number 9 prediction on the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013 is related to Music Score and Music Song. In the Original Score category, the favorites are Skyfall and Anna Karenina. My prediction is that Anna Karenina will win the Original Score Oscar. As far as Original song is concerned, Adele’s Skyfall is an overwhelming favorite for this year’s Oscar.
8. Foreign Language Film
The number 8 prediction on the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013 is related to Foreign Language Film. Every year, many great foreign language films are released and this year was no exception. This is one category no is is completely sure of the winner. My prediction is that Amour and A Royal Affair are favorites for this Oscar, with the eventual winner being Amour (also nominated for Best Picture category).
7. Writing
The number 7 prediction on the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013 is related to writing. First, I’ll write about Adapted Screenplay. This is one tough category to make predictions from. The main competition is among Lincoln, Argo and Silver Linings Playbook. My prediction for this Oscar is that Argo will triumph. As far as Original Screenplay is concerned, my overwhelming favorite is Django Unchained.
6. Best Supporting Actress
The number 6 prediction on the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013 is related to the Best Supporting Actress. Based on the results of the award shows held over the past month and what majority of critics are saying, the huge favorite here is Anne Hathaway for Les Miserables. I agree with the pundits in this category. If Anne Hathaway doesn’t win this Oscar, it will be a huge upset.
5. Best Supporting Actor
The number 5 prediction on the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013 is related to Best Supporting Actor. This is the battle of the giants. Robert De Niro has been nominated for an Oscar after 21 years and he is up against established actors like Christopher Waltz (Django Unchained), Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master) and Alan Arkin (Argo). I have seen all the movies and have to say that Christopher Waltz deserves the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. But, having said that, I am a huge De Niro fan and will be rooting for my favorite actor.
4. Best Actress
The number 4 prediction on the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013 is related to Best Actress. Almost all critics and pundits are of the view that the main competition is between Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) and Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Lining Playbook). Based on the past award shows, Jennifer Lawrence has won the award for best actress. There is also a talk of Jessica Chastain not being too happy about Jennifer stealing her limelight. This is too close to call, but my prediction is that Jennifer Lawrence will win the Oscar for Best Actress.
3. Best Actor
The number 3 prediction on the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013 is related to Best Actor. Daniel Day-Lewis is favorite for this category for portraying President Lincoln in the film, Lincoln. His main competition will be with Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) and Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables). Personally, I felt Hugh Jackman acted remarkably well in Les Miserables and deserves something for it, but unluckily, he’s up against one of the finest actors of his generation, Daniel Day-Lewis. My prediction is that Daniel Day-Lewis will win the Oscar for Best Actor.
2. Best Director
The number 2 prediction on the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013 is related to Best Director. Ben Affleck should have won this category, but I don’t know what the Academy was thinking. Ben Affleck has not even been nominated for Best Director (What a shame!). Now the main competition will be among Steven Spielberg (Linclon), Ang Lee (Life of Pi) and David O.Russel (Silver Linings Playbook). My prediction is that Ang Lee will give a tough fight to Spielberg but eventually Spielberg will win the Oscar for Best Director. Having said that, the other two competitors may cause an upset here.
1. Best Picture
Finally the number 1 prediction on the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013 is related to Best Picture. This is one tough category to make a prediction about. Many pundits are siding with Argo to win the Best Picture to make up for no Best Director nomination of Ben Affleck. But I think Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, and Life of Pi may win as well. After thinking about all these movies, I predict (based on a strong gut feeling) that Silver Lining Playbook may win the Best Picture Oscar this year. This was the list of the Top 10 Oscar Predictions 2013.
Thank You.
Have a Pleasant Day.
